$76,711 -$107,114 (2022/2023 Faculty Salary Schedule); teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges. The World Languages Department is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach the full range of Spanish courses, which include beginning to intermediate level, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, and conversation classes. In addition, this instructor will play a key role in developing new courses and participating in learning communities that help us fulfill our commitment as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. This position also requires collaborating with other departments and community groups and participating in departmental and campus-wide committees.

SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including online. While this assignment is for the Santa Rosa campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory. Instructors assume responsibility for maintaining currency in the field, for updating existing courses and developing new curricula (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses), assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes, participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work, managing laboratories, and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college. 

The Department of World Languages at Santa Rosa Junior College offers seven languages- American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish (including Spanish for Spanish speakers) at all levels. Classes are offered at a variety of locations, days/times, and formats (e.g., face-to-face, online, and hybrid, etc.). At present the department offers degree programs in French and Spanish, and there are a total of six full-time and approximately forty part-time instructors. SRJC students may complete a 19-unit Spanish major. The Santa Rosa campus facilities include a dedicated language laboratory with audio, video and computer equipment.

REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in Spanish; OR Bachelor's degree in Spanish AND Master's degree in another foreign language or Linguistics; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Spanish; AND
  • Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

PREFERRED:

  • Ability to speak Spanish with native or near-native proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement student-centered, outcomes-based, communicative language instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience in computer- assisted instruction for enhancing language acquisition.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to succeed in teaching all levels of Spanish across modalities at a community college, including academic transfer, conversational and Heritage speaker courses as well as developing curriculum in these areas
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of the cultures and the history of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti- racism.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Prior to beginning employment):

  1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States;
  2. Must be fingerprinted in California and have background clearance (at applicant's expense);
  3. Must take a TB test (once hired and every four years thereafter);
  4. Within 6 months of employment, must complete required District trainings on topics such as Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention, and Mandated Reporter;
