Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Spanish Applied Linguistics in a variety of formats and foreign and second language pedagogy and topics in cultures. Other responsibilities include: supervise Spanish language teacher candidates during their internship; conduct student advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; and participate in professional development and scholarly activities. Will perform service roles within the department and the college as assigned by the department head and/or dean, as well as committee service in the wider University. Contribution to the development of curriculum and to on-going initiatives in World Languages including immersion programs and student travel initiatives is expected. Will work closely with the Director of Spanish Teacher Licensure and provide assistance and oversight of the Bachelor of Science in Spanish Licensure program by keeping up to date with, and helping to fulfill the professional standards for the accreditation of teacher preparation institutions.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Spanish with a specialization in Applied Linguistics, (ABD considered if degree will be completed within the first year of employment); plus native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English; and college-level teaching experience. Candidates with knowledge of ACTFL and CAEP standards and current research and pedagogical practices in teaching world languages; experience in secondary school teaching; and experience utilizing technology in the classroom and online course modules are preferred. Demands of the position require evidence of excellent communication skills; building a scholarship portfolio; demonstrated success in student learning with instructional to mentor and guide future Spanish teachers; and the ability to travel off-campus for internship supervision. Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
