The Department of English and Modern Languages at the University of Illinois Springfield seeks applicants for an instructor position in Spanish TESOL to teach Spanish and linguistics and to coordinate and expand our languages program. The position begins July 16, 2017, with potential for annual renewal up to a maximum of three years. Applicants must be fluent in Spanish, hold a master's degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Spanish, and have completed significant coursework in applied linguistics or TESOL (graduate certificate or graduate degree preferred). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching skills and strong administrative capability, as well as eagerness to work with various constituencies across campus to advocate for language learning at the university. Program-building experience, especially recruitment, is a definite plus. This individual will teach primarily courses for the Spanish minor, teach linguistics courses as needed, and share responsibility with program faculty for contributing to the lower division curriculum. Coordination of the languages program will include recommending adjunct faculty, coordinating the schedule of language courses, and facilitating placement exams.
