The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Queensborough Community College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting Spring 2018. The successful candidate will have a record of teaching excellence and a strong commitment to dynamic and effective undergraduate teaching, as well as familiarity with current trends in second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy, including the integration of technology in the classroom.

The successful candidate will teach Spanish at all levels, including, Spanish for Heritage speakers, literature/culture courses, and Spanish for Medical Personnel, incorporating new pedagogical approaches, multimedia and computer-assisted teaching methodologies. The faculty member will: assist in the administering of foreign language placement procedures; provide mentoring and academic assistance and advisement to students during the semester and as part of the registration process; develop curricular and teaching materials; assist in curriculum/faculty development and course assessment; participate in the college?s Assessment Institute; administer the online platform for elementary-level Spanish courses; serve on departmental and college committees and as faculty advisor to the foreign language club; and teach some evening and weekend classes if required.

The Assistant Professor will be required to demonstrate a record of scholarly research and publications for re-appointment, tenure and promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in Spanish, Applied Linguistics or Second-Language Acquisition from an accredited institution of higher education.

Prior teaching experience in an undergraduate academic setting, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
