The University Tutor plays an important role in the delivery of many of the University's academic programmes and is appointed for the primary purpose of contributing to teaching within a clear and established teaching programme by providing tuition and/or demonstrations to groups of, usually undergraduate students, in specific aspects of the programme. The University Tutor assists and supports students to further develop their understanding of key course topics and to draw out key learning points from course materials.

Main duties and responsibilities
The University Tutor will be required to undertake, in consultation with and complying with the instructions of the designated Subject Leader / Head of School, such duties as may be specified by the University. These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- To teach undergraduate students, including seminars, tutorials, conversation classes, and to provide laboratory supervision as required;
- To carry out all necessary preparation on topics in order to be able to guide discussion, impart knowledge and answer queries arising from students, set exercises and design learning materials;
- To contribute to designing and conducting of continuous assessments and examinations;
- To supervise, assist and provide guidance to students, where required;
- To coordinate modules and liaise with students about any issues related to modules;
- To contribute to marking, under supervision, of coursework, written and oral examinations and other forms of assessment;
- To monitor student progress and provide feedback to students, highlighting to the Course Organiser any concerns about student performance;
- To attend meetings and participate with other staff in the development of alternative teaching and learning strategies, including the design and delivery of modules or designated teaching within the subject area;
- To be responsible for all equipment used and ensure that all health and safety procedures are followed, taking action to maintain a safe environment and raising any concerns with the Subject Leader or Head of School (or his or her nominee);
- To maintain his/her area of expertise and exercise a high standard of teaching;
- To ensure appropriate course/programme administration, including inputting marks and updating Moodle pages, and handling of data is carried out in a timely manner;
- To engage with colleagues in a professional and collegial manner.

The duties and responsibilities outlined have been listed as general and standard requirements. Additions or amendments may therefore be made to reflect the specific requirements of the School.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience
It is essential that candidates have the following:
- A minimum of an honours degree in a relevant discipline as well as relevant postgraduate qualifications;
- Experience of, and commitment to, working in an interdisciplinary setting;
- Good teaching, administrative, organisational, teamwork and communication skills;
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish (C2) and English (C2);
- Experience in developing instructional material and employing teaching technology and media;
- Experience in communicative and intercultural language teaching in an academic setting, including designing and teaching language classes commensurate with CEFR scales at all levels (A1?C1);
- The pedagogical skills necessary to teach mixed-ability groups;
- Experience in designing, conducting and grading written, oral, and aural language assessments;
- The ability to contribute to the assurance and enhancement of teaching quality.

It is desirable that candidates have the following:
- Teaching experience at third level;
- Experience of language teaching in the Irish higher education sector;
- Experience of teaching Business Spanish at third level;
- Ability to engage in curriculum development;
- A higher degree, at least an MA (or equivalent) in a relevant area.

Selection and Appointment
- Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend for interview;
- Candidates invited for interview may be required to make a brief presentation;
- Appointments will be approved by the President based on the report of the selection board;
- It is anticipated that interviews will be held during the week of the 21st of May 2018;
- The appointment is expected to be effective from 1st September 2018.

Terms and Conditions
This post is a full-time permanent post.

Salary
University Tutor (2018): €35,748 ? €46,327 p.a. (7 points)
Appointment will be made in accordance with the Department of Finance pay guidelines.
New entrants to the public sector will be appointed at the first point of the salary scale
