The Department of Modern Languages, Philosophy, and Classics at Roger Williams University seeks a Lecturer in Spanish Language and Latin American and Latino Studies, starting in Fall 2019. Requirements include experience and expertise in teaching Spanish language acquisition at all levels, as well as experience in teaching literature and cultural studies of Latin America, Central America, and/or Mexico. Responsibilities include participating in the Modern Language Department, teaching courses at all levels of Spanish language, teaching Latin American literatures or cultures in English, participating in delivery and governance of the Latin American and Latino Studies minor, advising and mentoring students. Teaching load is 4/4 with expectations for departmental and university service. Additional desired areas of expertise could include linguistics, Portuguese language, and experience with study abroad programs.

A Ph.D. in Spanish is required, as well as fluency in Spanish and ability to teach language courses and literary or cultural studies of Latin America, Central America, and/or Mexico. Candidates must show evidence of the ability to teach at all levels of language acquisition and demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence. The successful candidate will also have the capacity to participate in ongoing curricular development, assessment and student advising in the Modern Languages and Latin American/Latino Studies programs. While research accomplishments and publishing are not a requirement for this position, they are desirable in so far as they inform the candidate's teaching capacity and curricular interests.
