Xavier University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, yearly-renewable Teaching Professor of Spanish, starting in Fall 2018. The Teaching Professor position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract. Candidates must be dedicated to undergraduate teaching and demonstrate excellence in language teaching at all levels.

Duties will include teaching mostly beginning and intermediate level Spanish language courses, typically twelve credits per semester; service and participation in the life of the Department and University consistent with the mission of Jesuit higher education; and professional development activities on and off campus.

Required Qualifications
Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English (equivalent to a Superior level on the ACTFL scale). M.A. in Spanish. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in student-centered teaching and active learning. Ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, university administrators, and the community. Background, specialization, or other preparation in the area of second language acquisition and/or language teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Spanish. Completed coursework in language for specific purposes and/or Spanish for the Professions. Previous experience and interest in this area.
