The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at The University of Iowa invites applications from candidates with specializations in Spanish applied linguistics or second language acquisition, broadly defined, for the position of Director of Spanish Language Instruction at the rank of Senior Lecturer. This is a full-time, renewable, 12-month non-tenure-track position to begin June 1, 2017. The successful candidate will direct and manage the elementary and intermediate Spanish program, as well as the third-year multi-section Spanish writing and speaking courses.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in second language acquisition/applied linguistics or second/foreign language education with a research and teaching focus in Spanish, or in Hispanic linguistics or another related field. The successful candidate will have Spanish language teaching and supervisory experience, demonstrated leadership and administrative skills, and native or near-native proficiency in English and Spanish. We seek candidates with substantial experience in computer-assisted language teaching and hybrid/blended course development and management. Desirable qualities include knowledge of Portuguese, experience with Languages for Specific Purposes, or background in experiential learning.
