The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Swarthmore College invites applications for two positions at the level of Visiting Instructor in Spanish.

The successful candidates will teach Spanish language classes at all levels in a student-centered environment, and will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to Spanish language teaching that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.

These positions are outside the tenure stream and will begin in Fall 2019. The initial appointment will be made for a one-year period and will be renewable based on performance. Subsequent reappointment may be for periods of up to three years. Benefits package and salary competitive.

An M.A. or M.A.T. in Spanish or Applied Linguistics (with a focus on Spanish) at the time of application is required. Preference will be given to candidates with educational backgrounds in Linguistics, Philology, Second Language Acquisition, and Heritage Language Learning. Particularly welcome would be candidates with educational backgrounds specifically focusing on Hispanic Linguistics or Spanish as a Second Language (ELE).

A minimum of three-years experience teaching undergraduate-level Spanish is required. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is also required. Knowledge of proficiency-based assessment, ACTFL standards and OPI scales, language learning assessment, and Spanish for heritage learners are highly desirable. Administrative experience with a Spanish language program and proficiency in the use of technologies for the language classroom is a plus.
