An International Conference on "Language MOOCs and OERs: new trends and challenges" is organized by the University of Naples L'Orientale and the Federazione Nazionale Insegnanti Centro di iniziativa per l’Europa (FENICE), one of the partners of the project "Romance Languages for Slavic-Speaking University Students" (LMOOC4Slav) funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. Joining the organization of this international event are other project partners, namely The University for Foreigners of Perugia (IT), the University of Porto (PT), the University of Masaryk (CZ), the Jagiellonian University (PL) and the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Skopje (MK).

The conference will take place on 28-29 September 2023, and the venue is the prestigious headquarters of the Rectorate. Located in Palazzo Du Mesnil, via Chiatamone, 61 Naples 80121, this venue is in one of the city’s central areas, right by the sea near the famous Egg Castle.

Bringing together higher education professionals, applied linguists, and language technologists working in the field of language teaching and learning, the conference aims to present state-of-the-art practices related to the design of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and of other educational technologies, Open Educational Resources (OERs), methodological approaches in language teaching and learning, academic mobility, linguistic description of languages, linguistic diversity, language for specific purposes, and digitalization of education. Among the many conference highlights is the presentation of two MOOCs in Italian and Portuguese produced by the LMOOC4Slav project. The recipients of these two products are Slavic-speaking university students interested in spending a period of study abroad in Italian or Portuguese universities.

As a professional networking platform, the conference is expected to provide excellent opportunities for the exchange of research ideas and outcomes, and innovative technical achievements.

Call for Papers (deadline: June 17th, 2023)

We invite proposals including research-related papers, presentations of case studies and projects on the subject of LMOOCs (Language MOOCs), including language learning and teaching with MOOCs; OER/OEP for language learning and teaching; MOOCs and student mobility; and initiatives and developments linked to these fields supported by European and national programmes.

We particularly encourage proposals on, but not limited to, the following areas related to the conference themes:

  • MOOCs - design, learning, teaching, quality assurance, etc.
  • OER / OEP for language learning and teaching
  • Pedagogical approaches in LMOOCs and OERs
  • MOOCs and OERs for language teachers: new tools for professional development
  • LMOOCs and skills development
  • MOOCs to support multilingualism and international Mobility
  • LMOOCs and learners’ motivation and achievement
  • Validation and certification of language skills acquired through MOOCs
  • Monitoring and evaluating of language learning with technologies
  • Assessing students’ linguistic meta-competences in MOOCs
  • Assessing LMOOCs
  • Mobile-assisted language teaching and learning
  • Informal language learning and technologies
  • Virtual classrooms, eLearning, and ePortfolio
  • Technologies and/or Multimedia for Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP)
  • Learning strategies development through online environments/platforms

Our conference represents an opportunity for both early career researchers and for consolidated scholars to present their work which will reflect results that have yet to be published.
