The Department of Humanities at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Spanish with a specialization in Latin American Literature beginning fall 2023. We seek a colleague who can offer instruction in all periods of Latin American literature. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses, including Spanish language and culture classes at all levels, and must be able to support the teaching of Spanish for the Professions, Translation, and/or Bilingual Education. The successful candidate is also expected to do service at different levels (program, department, college, university, and community) and to maintain a research agenda.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is a Hispanic-Serving institution. The Spanish program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers a major and minor in Spanish, a translation certificate, and a Spanish teaching certificate. The main focus of the program is to develop the student’s language proficiency and the literary, cultural, and practical application competencies demanded by our ever-changing world. Instructors at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are expected to enact culturally responsive pedagogic practices. The teaching expectations include a 3-3 course load that supports two or more areas of concentration:  Latin American Literature, Culture, Civilization, AND Spanish for the Professions, Translation, and/or Bilingual Education.

Requisitos 

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Spanish with a concentration in Latin American Literature. Advanced ABDs may be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
  • Credentialing, substantial coursework at the postsecondary or professional experience in Bilingual Education, Spanish for the Professions, or Translation.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English languages.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and/or other campus settings.

  • Demonstrated potential for community engagement and/or outreach.
  • Demonstrated potential for program development.
