The department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures seeks an Assistant Professor of Spanish for Specific Purposes with a solid foundation in Needs Analysis and Task-Based Language Instruction.  This is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment to begin August 16, 2022. This position will teach five undergraduate and graduate courses per year, This position will coordinate a team effort to develop an innovate LSP program, engage in research and publication, mentor and advise students and provide service to the department, university and profession. 


  • Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment with a specialization in Spanish Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or related field 
  • Demonstrated experience or research interest in Languages for Specific Purposes
  • Research or program design record founded on Needs Analysis and Task-based Language Teaching, or evidence of potential in these areas 
  • Experience designing or implementing innovative LSP curricula
  • Interest in, and demonstrated potential for coordinating and offering leadership to a team of instructors and scholars engaged in developing an innovative LSP program in the department
  • Relevant teaching experience and evidence of teaching potential in the field of LSP.
  • Ability to teach a range of undergraduate- and graduate-level linguistics and applied linguistics courses 
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English (e.g. equivalent to Advanced High or higher on the ACTFL scale).
  • Experience in teaching with technology and developing online courses. Familiarity with current best practices in online language course development and teaching
  • Proficiency assessment training and/or experience
  • Demonstrated interest in serving heritage language students and ability to integrate heritage language teaching methodologies into an LSP curriculum 
  • Experience in collaboration across academic units and demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary program development
  • Interest in, and ability to obtain external funding 
  • Working proficiency in a third language and ability to apply LSP curriculum development principles to languages other than Spanish
