The Division of Spanish and Portuguese in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Baylor University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Hispanic Linguistics to begin Fall of academic year 2026–2027. This is a full-time, tenure track position that is open to all applicants at the assistant, advanced assistant, or associate level, with the possibility of tenure for highly qualified applicants. 

Required

  • The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a research and teaching agenda appropriate for an R1 institution;
  • Ph.D. is required at time of appointment;
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English;
  • Academic specialization in Hispanic Linguistics;
  • Potential for success in seeking external funding.

Preferred

  • A record of published scholarship;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of linguistics courses;
  • Effective teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. 

We welcome applications from candidates with any specialization in Hispanic Linguistics, especially candidates whose research and teaching specializations complement those of the current faculty. Possible areas of specialty that could benefit our program include, but are not limited to:

  • computational linguistics / natural language processing
  • corpus linguistics / discourse analysis
  • cognitive linguistics / psycholinguistics
  • historical linguistics
  • applied linguistics (e.g., medical interpreting / Spanish for health care)
  • phonology
