The School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) at ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY seeks applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of Spanish Bilingualism. We seek a dynamic expert in Spanish Linguistics with specific expertise in bilingualism and applied linguistics, Critical Language Awareness, and/or language ideologies/attitudes. SILC’s undergraduate and graduate programs are increasing in size at a robust rate, and we seek a candidate who excels in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Furthermore, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and teaching of a newly established Masters in Spanish to help advance the school’s programs to national prominence. The Assistant Teaching Professor will also contribute to our burgeoning PhD in Spanish linguistics and improve the use of digital technologies in in-person and online programs. They will be expected to teach lower, upper-division, and graduate courses in the Spanish curriculum, online, in-person, and/or hybrid, and hold office hours. Candidates with experience in course design and curriculum building are welcome.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug.16-May 15). Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, the needs of the university, and sufficient enrollment in assigned courses. Anticipated start date is August 2026.
Essential Duties:
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute to the development and teaching of a newly established Masters in Spanish
- Contribute to our PhD in Spanish linguistics.
- Improve the use of digital technologies for in-person and on-line programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics or closely related field at the time of hire.
- 4 years minimum of college-level teaching experience.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in college-level teaching, including Spanish hybrid and/or online courses.
- Proficiency in both Spanish and English.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in online pedagogy at the post-secondary level.
- Research focus or interest in one or more of the following:
o Spanish-English sociolinguistics
o Bilingualism
o Applied Linguistics
- Experience in course and curriculum design.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
