Gonville & Caius College and Emmanuel College invite applications for a joint College Lectureship in Spanish (fixed term) to be held with a Bye-Fellowship at Gonville & Caius College for nine months commencing on 1 October 2025 and running to 3 July 2026. This is to cover a period of leave for a member of academic staff.
The successful candidate will be required to play a key role to teach undergraduates on topics from the Cambridge undergraduate Spanish course (Paper Sp1 ‘Introduction to the Language, Literatures and Cultures of the Spanish speaking world’ and one or two other scheduled papers, especially Sp5 ‘Latin American Culture and History’). In particular, they will be required to carry out a set amount of small group teaching (supervisions) in pairs during term, equivalent to approximately ten hours per teaching week (there are 20 teaching weeks per academic year). Most of this teaching will be done for students from Gonville & Caius and Emmanuel Colleges and the remainder for students of other colleges in Cambridge. They will also be required to take part in admissions interviews in December for both colleges. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue their own research, with opportunities to become integrated and involved in activities within the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics.
The appointment is for nine months, starting on 1 October 2025 until 3 July 2026. The remuneration is at point 44 on the University Single Pay Spine (currently £41,509 per annum, pro rata for fixed term). This salary is pensionable under the University Superannuation Scheme (USS). Service as director of studies is separately remunerated and the successful candidate is likely to be asked to serve as director of studies for at least one part of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos at Emmanuel College.
The successful candidate would also be expected to serve as a Pastoral Tutor to a half panel of Undergraduate students at Gonville & Caius College (remunerated separately, currently £10,078 for a full panel).
The successful candidate will be appointed as a Temporary College Lecturer and also appointed to a Bye-Fellowship of Gonville & Caius College to be held for the duration of their tenure as Assistant/Associate Professor of Gonville & Caius College.
It is intended that the successful candidate will take up their appointment on 1 October 2025.
