The Department of Latin American, Latino & Iberian Studies at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Latinx Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2022.

The teaching load is five undergraduate units per academic year, including a mix of Spanish language courses at all levels, upper division courses in area(s) of expertise, and first year seminars. The ability to teach an indigenous language and/or Portuguese will be considered a plus. Development of new courses in the specialization is expected, as well as courses of interdisciplinary design in conjunction with other departments and programs. Through their teaching, mentoring, research, and service activities, strong applicants will demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the University of Richmond’s goals of thriving, inclusion, diversity, and equity, and for promoting the success and well-being of people of color, members of sexual and gender minority groups, first-generation college students, immigrant students, and persons with disabilities.


We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar in Latinx Studies with a concentration in such areas as Afro-Latinx studies, Latinx and Caribbean literatures and cultures, migration studies, Latinx indigeneities, particularly as they engage with intersectionalities of race, gender, class, and other social constructs. The successful candidate will strengthen the Latinx studies component of the curriculum, with particular emphasis on the connections among racialized notions of citizenship, language use, and identity formation. Candidates are expected to engage in sustained scholarly activity or creative work, and demonstrate a commitment to innovative and inclusive pedagogies. Familiarity with instructional technologies is required. Completion of PhD is expected prior to appointment.
