The Department of Spanish and Portuguese invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice in Second Language Acquisition, beginning August 2025. This appointment is a renewable, benefits-eligible, teaching-focused position. We are seeking an innovative and passionate educator to teach Spanish language courses and contribute to our language program’s mission of fostering linguistic proficiency and cultural competence among undergraduate students.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses (3-2 teaching load) mainly in elementary Spanish, with a focus on innovative and effective language teaching methodologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the department's language curriculum with opportunities to engage in curriculum development for advanced levels.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance teaching practices based on second language acquisition research.
  • Lead professional development activities, engage in service to the department, and carry out other duties as assigned.

Requisitos 

  • Ph.D., in hand no later than August 1, 2025, in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Spanish, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching Spanish at the elementary level in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including experience with communicative language teaching methods and technology-enhanced language instruction.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment that values diversity and promotes engagement with cultural content.
