Oswego's Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, one of the largest in the SUNY System, offers majors and minor programs of study in French, German, and Spanish.  In addition, it offers a major in Language and International Trade, certification program for teachers of French, German, and Spanish, and it offers language study in American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese.

The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures, at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Distance Language Instruction and Design.

We seek a collegial faculty member with a demonstrated track record of teaching excellence in student-centered pedagogy with expertise in Distance Language Instruction and Design. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses within the department to support the Spanish major, working closely with other SUNY campuses to share language instruction expertise and offerings, and supporting faculty in developing higher levels of expertise in online course development. The faculty member will use and share the latest teaching tools and technology for creating engaging and interactive online experiences and effectively applying digital accessibility principles. The faculty member will be familiar with ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines.  A solid commitment to scholarship is essential for teaching effectiveness. Collaborative activities with our high schools, advisement and service to the department, the campus, and the larger academic field of studies are necessary and expected.

The faculty member should have previous intercultural experience at other access-oriented institutions and work effectively with students and faculty from all backgrounds: underrepresented students, racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, and first-generation college graduates from lower-income families.

Requisitos 

  • An advanced degree in Instructional Design and Spanish or Spanish Linguistics, or related fields, such as:
    - Ph.D. in Distance Learning Design and M.A. in Spanish.
    - Ph.D. in Spanish and an M.S. in Distance Learning Design.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in language, literature, and culture courses.
  • Willingness to participate in collaborative activities with high schools to supervise our college in the high school programs.
  • Experience in curriculum development and instruction.
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.

Candidates should also have a demonstrated record in at least three of the following areas of pedagogical practice:

1. Implementation of strategies to create more equitable and inclusive learning environments.

2. Experience in designing equity-centered courses for the overall benefit of SUNY Oswego's learning community.

3. Development of lesson plans addressing the impact of bias in the classroom.

4. Familiarity with educational practices informed by decolonial thinking.
