The ideal candidate will show evidence of a well-defined research agenda in cultural and literary studies centered on Mexico, Central America, and/or the Southern Cone. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on one or more of the following thematic and critical clusters: Indigeneity/Afro-indigeneity, environment/society, equality/social justice, or identity and communities.

Candidates should show evidence of teaching effectiveness and a firm commitment to student mentorship and curricular innovation. The person appointed will be expected to promote innovative interdisciplinary collaboration in research and/or teaching across our campus and beyond.

Requisitos

A Ph.D. in Spanish or related field is required by mid-June for a preferred start date of Aug 16, 2023.  Professional level proficiency in Spanish and English is required. Knowledge of Portuguese or any indigenous languages spoken in Latin America is a plus.  Applicants must have a record of publication indicative of an associate or full professor or evidence of a promising research agenda indicative of appointments as assistant professor appropriate to a research university.

Cómo solicitar

Application materials must be submitted online at: http://jobs.illinois.edu. Only applications submitted through the University of Illinois job board will be considered.

Applicants must submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, two sample publications and/or dissertation chapters, evidence of teaching effectiveness (statistical summaries for two courses preferred), and a diversity statement detailing how their teaching, service and/or scholarship has contributed to the success of students from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented in their academic field. Applicants who have not yet had the opportunity for such experience should note how their work will further Illinois’ and the College of LAS’ commitment to diversity.  The search committee may contact the applicant about soliciting letters of reference at a later point, after a first review of the files.

To ensure full consideration, all required materials must be submitted by October 12, 2022. The target starting date of appointment is August 16, 2023.
