The salary is subject to negotiation. The minimum gross salary for the position at this level (salary group A1 for faculty according to the Austrian Universities’ Collective Bargaining Agreement) is currently € 92,500 per year.
In accordance with the Austrian Income Tax Act an attractive relocation tax allowance can be granted for the first five years in the case of appointments to professorships in Austria. The prerequisites are subject to examination on a case-by-case basis.

The University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position in the Department of Romance Languages within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Education, in compliance with the provisions of Art. 98 (open-ended) or Art. 99 (limited to 5 years) of the Austrian Universities Act:
Full Professor of Romance Linguistics (Italian and French OR Italian and Spanish Linguistics) (all genders welcome).
This is a full-time position. Whether the position will be implemented in compliance with the provisions of Art. 98 Austrian Universities Act (open-ended) or Art. 99 of the Austrian Universities Act (limited to 5 years) will be decided in the course of the appointment procedure.

The duties of the position include:
- Representing the field in appropriate breadth and theoretical-methodological diversity in research and teaching, with a focus on Italian and either French or Spanish linguistics
- Teaching in relevant Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes in German, Italian and French or Spanish
- Willingness to cover existing curricula and to further develop the curricula
- Advising and mentoring students in the above-mentioned programmes, including Bachelor's theses, Master's theses and dissertations
- Support for early career researchers
- Acquiring and managing competitive research funding
- Contributing to the long-term development and profile-building of the department and its international standing
- Commitment to internationalisation in teaching and research, in particular to expanding and maintaining contacts in Romance-speaking countries
- Advancing the department’s and faculty’s research priorities, with a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration
- Contributing to university governance and academic self-administration
- Engaging in third mission activities and public outreach (knowledge transfer, non-university events and collaborations)
Required qualifications:
- Doctorate and habilitation or equivalent qualification in Romance Linguistics (one of the degrees must be in Italian linguistics and the other in French or Spanish linguistics)
- Excellent research standing and publication record in Romance Linguistics
- Very good German, Italian, and French or Spanish language skills (at least level C1 in each language)
- Ability to teach relevant university courses in German, Italian, and French or Spanish
- Verifiable teaching experience at university level and didactic competence
- Experience in the acquisition of competitive third-party funded research projects in line with career progression
- Leadership skills and ability to work in a team
Desired qualifications:
- Experience in international research cooperation and networking in the international research landscape
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation
- Experience with academic management duties and committee work
- Competence in gender mainstreaming and diversity management
