The School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol seeks to appoint an open-ended, full-time Lecturer in Latin American Studies / Spanish (Pathway 1) from 1 August 2023. The successful candidate will bring research expertise in Latin American Studies or Spanish, broadly understood, to complement and contribute to the depth and breadth of the existing interdisciplinary team. This might include any period of history, any geographical region of the world where Spanish is spoken, and disciplinary backgrounds from geography and sociology to linguistics and literature. They will be able to offer research-led teaching in their area of Latin American Studies or Spanish and to contribute to teaching and administration within the Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, and the School of Modern Languages.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to the teaching of our undergraduate programmes in Spanish. They will teach on existing units on Latin American or Spanish culture and develop their own new research-led units based on their scholarly expertise. They may also be expected to contribute to teaching Spanish-English translation and to the delivery of schoolwide units within the School of Modern Languages, which explore culture and history in comparative and transnational perspective, as well as to our MA programmes in Comparative Literatures and Cultures and/or Translation, and postgraduate research supervision.
Requisitos
They will possess a PhD in Latin American Studies or Spanish or a cognate field by the time of the appointment. The candidate will be fluent in the Spanish language.
