The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to appoint an ambitious Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Teaching and Research) at grade 9 in Spanish and/or Latin American Studies. The post is 1.0 FTE, full-time and open-ended to enhance the growing teaching and research profile of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Stirling. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering both individual and team-taught modules in language and culture within the programme: potential for contributions to other programmes with the Division and Faculty is welcome. 

For the purposes of sponsorship, this is a postdoctoral role under SOC code 2311.

The successful candidate will have a capacity for student supervision and attracting doctoral students. He/she will also have a PhD in Spanish and/or Latin American Studies or cognate disciplines, an established track record for high-quality publications, grant capture and impact/knowledge exchange, and the ability to lead a dynamic small team of junior colleagues.

  • PhD in relevant discipline

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Established track record of high quality published research
  • Evidence of success in attracting research grants/external funding and delivering on externally funded research projects
  • Experience of supervising dissertation projects across the range of undergraduate/ postgraduate and of supervising doctoral students
  • Experience of providing high quality teaching across a range of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level preferably including online/digital programmes
  • Proven experience of programme leadership including experience of designing and delivering course modules
  • Experience of providing academic leadership and of successful co-ordination, support, supervision, management and/or mentoring of others
  • Evidence or knowledge to support international activities

Associate Professor T&R

  • PhD in relevant discipline
  • Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals to levels of outstanding international excellence and a strong REF profile
  • A record of securing research grants / external funding and delivering on research projects 
  • A significant record of attracting and supervising research students
  • Experience of delivering high quality, inspirational and motivational teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels preferably including online/digital programmes
  • Extensive knowledge of issues and challenges facing universities in such areas as curriculum design, course assessment, quality assurance, enhanced student experience and unregulated income generation
  • Demonstrated academic leadership in research and teaching and learning
  • Evidence of developing internal and external networks with the ability to instigate activity

Desirable Criteria
Senior Lecturer T&R

  • Higher Education teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Hold Fellowship or Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Evidence of collaborative research with other institutions and interdisciplinary work
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as a key contribution to high quality student learning
  • Evidence of knowledge of theHigher Education context and regulatory framework
