Minimum $54,820-$64,159 (subject to salary increase effective January 1, 2025).  Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.

The Language and Latinx Studies Department at Holyoke Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach Spanish language and literature within the department’s Latinx Studies Degree Option and the Community Leadership Certificate.  

 The candidate should be willing to teach college Spanish courses to college/dual enrollment students at HCC’s campus and/or at Holyoke High School’s north campus.  

As part of the college’s efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all HCC students, candidates must bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching practice, as well as a record of excellence in college-level instruction. The person selected is expected to maintain and expand the Global Seal of Biliteracy credential opportunity and other ongoing departmental initiatives, such as course and program assessment.  The selected faculty member should be available to serve as department chair on a rotating basis and carry out a program review every five years.  Candidates for this position should demonstrate an understanding of the needs of community college students as well as an interest in working collaboratively with colleagues, transfer institutions, and community organizations. Although hybrid and online teaching options may be available, this position will require a substantial amount of in-person, on-campus work with students, faculty, and community partners.

1.     Teach elementary, intermediate and advanced Spanish courses, as needed.

2.    Remain knowledgeable about developments and trends in the field, and proficient in current foreign language and heritage speaker teaching methodology.

3.     Coordinate and advance the Spanish Program by designing new and updating existing courses to maintain an evolving, contemporary, and forward-looking curriculum.

4.    Participate in professional development activities in the discipline.

5.     Contribute to department efforts to recruit and retain students.

6.    Collaborate to advance departmental, course, and program assessment.

7.     Work with department colleagues to maintain and expand the Global Seal of Biliteracy credential opportunity and other ongoing departmental initiatives. 

8.     Provide academic advising suited to students’ career and transfer goals  

9.     Meet with and assist students during office hours.

10.   Participate in shared governance committees, as well as other committees, task forces, and sub-committees.

 11.   Provide college service as required by the MCCC contract.

Requisitos 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to teach Spanish at all levels while incorporating innovative and current language methodologies.  In addition to teaching experience, candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to student-centered advising and an interest in actively engaging with the communities HCC serves. 

Required

  • MA in Spanish or related field completed by August 15, 2025.
  • Minimum three (3) years of teaching Spanish at the college level. 
  • Demonstrated excellent teaching skills, including varied pedagogical strategies
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Experience working successfully with a diverse student body.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or interest in working collaboratively with colleagues and community.
  • Knowledge of contemporary methods in the field, both foreign language and heritage speakers.
  • Active engagement with current issues in Spanish language instruction.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the Spanish language with native or near-native fluency in reading, writing and speaking.  

Preferred

  • Community college teaching experience, especially experience teaching a variety of Spanish language courses.
  • Experience with curricular and program development and assessment.
  • Experience developing effective working relationships with colleagues, including student support services, instructional programs, and/or community agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement an outcomes-based, integrated, critical reading/writing/speaking/understanding curriculum using effective and innovative pedagogy/curriculum and technology.
