The Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida seeks an instructor at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with experience creating, teaching, and coordinating Spanish for Specific Purposes courses. This is a full-time, nine-month, renewable, non-tenure-track position. The start date is August 16, 2022. Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching three courses per semester, primarily in Spanish for Specific Purposes (e.g., Legal, Medical, Translation, etc.), dependent on departmental needs.
  • Developing additional courses in diverse areas, such as Spanish for Journalism, Psychology, Engineering, Agriculture, Government, Social Justice, etc.
  • Coordinating the departmental Certificate in Spanish for the Professions.
  • Participating in departmental duties, including committee work, ongoing training in pedagogy, and curriculum development.


The ideal candidate will have: a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Spanish or closely related field (M.A. or M.Ed. will be considered if other qualifications are outstanding); native or native-like fluency in English and Spanish; demonstrated excellence as a teacher; experience teaching college-level Spanish for Specific Purposes courses, and a strong commitment to working with diverse populations.

Additional desirable qualities include expertise in Translation, the ability to collaborate in the administration of the cross-departmental Certificate in Translation; and interest in directing summer study abroad programs.
