Descripción

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Berry College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish to begin in August 2024. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching lower and intermediate-level language courses in the college setting. They will teach a total of seven courses over the 2024-25 academic year and have the possibility of teaching an upper-level literature, linguistics, or culture course based on the candidate's field of expertise.

The department is committed to providing students with the opportunity of becoming proficient in the languages, literatures and cultures of the languages it offers, and to gain cross- and intercultural competency and global awareness. It seeks to graduate majors and minors with advanced communicative skills in speaking, reading, and writing, cultural knowledge of foreign countries, and a sophisticated understanding of the problems and promises that a globalized world presents. Spanish is among the most popular minor programs at the college, and has a longstanding community engagement program with the Spanish-speaking community in our area. The department also boasts of graduates who have won numerous prestigious fellowships, such as Fulbright.

We seek candidates who demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching in a liberal arts environment, and a commitment to mentoring and guiding students. We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and scholarship are aligned with and will advance Berry's culture of diversity and belonging. There are multiple opportunities in and out of the classroom for our faculty to develop meaningful mentoring relationships with our students while fostering their development as student assistants through the college's LifeWorks program, and guiding them in undergraduate research projects and Honors theses. Faculty at Berry have access to a wide range of professional development opportunities, including summer research/writing grants and generous support for conference travel as well as for teaching workshops and seminars.
