Descripción

The Spanish Section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is currently accepting applications to the MA and PhD degree programs for the academic year 2023- 2024.

The Spanish Graduate program covers a range of literary culture from colonial literature to 20th and 21st century Spanish American and Peninsular fiction, from popular culture to masculinities, exile and migration, from Caribbean literature to the study of digital humanities. In addition, the program includes diverse linguistic areas such as linguistic analysis, sociolinguistics and applied linguistics.

Our Spanish faculty gears toward collaborative, international and interdisciplinary scholarship. Students can pursue graduate minors in fields such as digital humanities, women’s and gender studies, teaching and ethnic studies. Students will also have the opportunity to take cutting-edge, team-taught courses, creative writing, and courses in cultural studies. Recent course offerings include graduate classes on decolonial pedagogies, Basque diaspora, Avant-Garde and Postmodernism, Caribbean Literature and Culture, paranoid fictions, U.S. Spanish, and language pedagogy.

Ours is a cosmopolitan department. Current and recent Spanish students hail from Spain, U.S. and Latin America. You will also get to know students in the French and German graduate programs. Students from Ghana, Tunisia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Belgium, Germany and France have been part of those programs. We are also a smaller department, which has the advantage of offering students individualized attention and a warm, collegial experience.

Funding is available as graduate teaching assistantships, augmented by fellowships that are awarded to recognize merit, to support presenting papers at academic conferences, and to reward scholarly publications.

The deadline to apply for the 2023-24 academic year is February 1, 2023.

Observaciones

The Graduate Teaching Assistantship allows for 6 credit hours (2 courses) of teaching each semester. Staring at the lower-level courses of Spanish (required for most students at the university) to the 2nd and 3rd-year Spanish courses. A great way to develop your teaching skills in an academic environment.
