The University of The Bahamas is seeking candidates to fill the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages, School of Communication and Creative Arts, College of Liberal and Fine Arts.

The Foreign Languages Department is seeking candidates with the ability to teach all levels of the Spanish language with a special focus on Caribbean and Latin American Studies topics, including Hispanic Applied Linguistics, Business Spanish, Translation and Interpretation, and Spanish for Specific Purposes. Candidates will be expected to engage in programme review and academic programme promotion and maintain an agenda of scholarly research. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students, a deep knowledge of the Hispanophone Caribbean context, and a willingness to promote foreign language learning through community outreach. This candidate must also be willing to increase access to language education through the use of technology and to contribute to the development of quality distance education options for language learners.

Reporting to the Chair, School of Communication and Creative Arts the Assistant/Associate Professor of Spanish will be responsible for:

  • Teaching all levels of the Spanish language;
  • Teach and develop Spanish courses for the professions and specialization tracks in translation and interpretation;
  • Engage in research;
  • Assist in securing external grants and other funding opportunities;
  • Participate in curriculum review, revision and design;
  • Develop and participate in departmental projects;
  • Contribute to the development of teaching materials;
  • Serve on departmental, school and university-wide committees.

Requisitos 

Candidates must have an earned PhD in Spanish, Hispanic/Latin American/Spanish Studies, or a related field from an accredited institution with a rich university experience in teaching the Spanish language and Caribbean / Latin American literature and culture.

Tertiary-level teaching experience.

Published research in the areas of Spanish language, Linguistics, Literature, or Hispanic and Latin American studies.

Expertise in the Spanish language and proficiency in English.

The ability to teach another language such as French or Portuguese is also a plus.
