The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor with a primary specialization in applied Spanish linguistics, language pedagogy, and/or second-language acquisition. Secondary training, experience, and interest in one or more of the following areas may be a plus: bilingual education, Spanish for heritage speakers, language curriculum renewal, instructor training and/or supervision. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment to start in August 2025. The VAP will be expected to teach three courses per semester and assist in the extra-curricular activities organized by the Spanish section and allied programs. Teaching may include a graduate course per semester. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to provide effective instruction and/or advising to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students. The initial appointment is for one year with the potential for annual reappointment. For the annual renewal, candidates should provide at least one year of evaluations as instructor of record illustrating high quality teaching effectiveness.

We seek a candidate who entails conducting research leading to publication, engaging in creative and/or scholarly activities, designing graduate and undergraduate courses, developing and implementing new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, mentoring and evaluating students, creating interest and understanding among students, serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus an in related professional organizations, and participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus. 

Duties will include:

Requisitos 

Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate

  • Ph.D. in applied Spanish linguistics or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English
  • Demonstrated classroom competency with commitment to exceptional teaching at the graduate level and/or undergraduate level.
  • An active research agenda or evidence of scholarly productivity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated secondary training, experience, and/or interest in bilingual education, Spanish for heritage speakers, language curriculum renewal, instructor training and/or supervision
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • College-level experience teaching graduate courses in Hispanic linguistics, applied Spanish linguistics, language pedagogy, and/or second-language acquisition
  • Demonstrated commitment to, or experience in, mentoring/advising undergraduate and graduate students
  • Demonstrated strong evidence of the ability to be an active, involved, and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and/or cross-campus collaborations
